Good news: You don’t have to ALWAYS be happy.
We live in this ‘Happiness as a compulsion’ age where it seems that if you are not perpetually happy, something is wrong with you. In fact, when we feel unhappy about not being perfectly happy, we just create additional suffering out of nothing!
If you want to avoid the source of ultimate misery, here it is: Trying to be something you are not.
Therefore, if you are not happy at a particular moment, what’s the big deal? Don’t beat yourself up for that.
And I am not even saying that you have to ’embrace’ your unhappiness or do some new-agey stuff to make it feel profound. Just accept that in life shit happens and some things make you unhappy — no big deal.
Of course, this does not mean that you can’t improve your baseline happiness levels (e.g., by practicing gratitude, loving-kindness meditation, vipassana).
But no matter how much you improve your life, ups and downs will still be there.
In human life, imperfection is a feature, not a bug.
