Why Everything Seems Easy Until You Actually Do It

When I was a cop, everybody else told us how to manage the city traffic better. Now that I am an entrepreneur, VCs seem to know exactly how entrepreneurs should scale their businesses. 😊

And lest it sound accusatory, let me confess this — when I was an investor, I was that person who told other entrepreneurs how to grow. 🤦‍♂️

It is not that people are deluded or arrogant. But when your knowledge is superficial, everything seems simple. And the answers you have are simplistic and sometimes, plain wrong.

To give an example, when youngsters join the Civil Services, many proclaim that they will end corruption. But once they are on the job, they realize that people hesitate to complain and witnesses don’t show up. For example, I once suspended a cop for taking a bribe from a drunken driver.

But during the enquiry, the complainant said that he was so drunk that he could not recognise the officer. I dismissed the cop anyway, but he got back on appeal.

Everything is easy until you start doing it.

Whatever goals you have in your life, don’t overthink them. Don’t solve all the problems just by analyzing — you can’t.

Anyone who has achieved anything has done it only one way — by getting in the trenches and getting started. Then why should it be different for you?

Get started. And bit by bit, the path will reveal itself.
