Why We Remember Challenges More Than Comfort in Life

Whenever I ask people about the best time in their lives, they rarely reminisce about fun stuff (e.g., exotic vacations).

More often, I find people reminiscing about the times when they immersed themselves into a hard challenge.

For some, it might be preparing for college entrance exam. For others, it could be their college days, when they juggled 20 different things. And for some, it could climbing a mountain, running a marathon, or even a dull-sounding work project!

Whether we realise it or not, we want to be challenged. We want to be pushed, and sometimes, even to our limits. We want to be absorbed in our work.

We don’t want to laze around on a sofa, watching TV. And even people who do that, hate doing it.

Humans don’t want an easy life — we want our life to count. We want our days to matter.

That is what makes life worthwhile.

Luxuries and fancies have a half life of two weeks. What people remember is the hardest challenge they crushed.
