When I was a kid, we were living in a remote military station in Assam, surrounded by hills and jungle-like vegetation.
In those days, power cuts there were a daily thing. But one day, the transmission system got knocked off so badly that for more than 3-4 days, we had no power.
Finally, when the power supply was restored, even seeing the light bulb glow, I felt the same wondrous admiration that Edison may have first felt.
It was the same light bulb but I had always taken it for granted. Now, when I lost it for a few days, I learned to appreciate it.
As humans, we only learn to value things when we lose them. That is why, a little bit of hardship once in a while is not such a bad thing.
Don’t expect life to be a monotonically increasing function.
It is when we go through ups and downs that we start seeing the many wonderful things around us, which otherwise would have remained invisible.
