Real Life Is Right Now

Your life = Your time.

We know it, but we still don’t “get it.”

Wasting our time somehow seems ok. But wasting our life feels criminal. And yet, they are exactly the same.

As an example, nobody says, “I will waste 20% of my life meaninglessly scrolling my phone or doing a job I hate every day.” But many of us do that because what’s the big deal? Our whole life is still ahead of us.

No, it isn’t — whether you wasted a few hours or a few years, that much of your life is gone. For good.

At the end of every day, we have one less day to live.

But while we know this intellectually, we act like ‘real life’ will start later — when we have the right job, enough money, and the ideal conditions. Right now, we are just preparing for that real life. And I am also just as guilty of losing this mindfulness.

Real life is right now — real life is today.

So every day, consciously remind yourself, possibly by writing a morning journal, that today you will use up one day of your life. How do you want that day to be?

Once you start focusing on that, you will build the life you desire, one day at a time.

This is the only way.
