A few years ago, when I used to go running in the University Stadium in Trivandrum, I would often see a former Chief Minister doing his daily walk. And he was in his early nineties.
I have seen many Kerala politicians extremely active in their 80s. So much so that they don’t allow their opponents a moment of peace. 😊
I used to wonder, what makes them so active and alert?
Genetics and diet are probably part of the answer.
But I suspect there is a much bigger factor — these politicians are constantly challenged to play the game of power politics and beat their opponents, who are just as sharp.
Be it our physical or mental muscle, when it is challenged, it gets stronger. Whereas lack of challenge causes atrophy — that is why retired people decline so quickly.
However, this is just as relevant to you as it is to old politicians.
Even if you are in your twenties, find mentally challenging jobs that will keep you sharp — routine, repetitive jobs will dull you. For the same reason, push your body every day with a workout.
Every morning, when you wake up, you have a choice — take it easy, or push yourself.
Choose the harder path — you will live a richer and longer life.
