The mental benefits of physical exercise

This happened a fortnight ago.

It was around 1 pm and I was feeling this terrible low-grade anxiety, making it difficult to focus on anything. And when I can’t focus, my anxiety ramps up even more, and soon, the day goes downhill really fast.

I then realized the problem — in the morning, I could not do my workout properly as I had to take my dog out for a walk.

I knew that it was time for my favorite anti-anxiety drug — “an intense workout.” But it was a hot and dreary afternoon and the rickety gym in my residential complex has no AC.

Yet, all it took was a 40-min intense workout and a shower to feel like a totally new person — I now felt optimistic and energized. And the rest of the day was amazingly focused and fun.

Physical exercise is just as much for the mind as for the body, if not more.

Whenever you are anxious or feeling a bit low, try this drug — a 45 min bout of intense physical activity. Sometimes, an ounce of action is better than a ton of theory.
