Most influencers are lying.
They tell you that you can make a 6 or 7-figure income working 2-4 hours a day while chilling on the beaches of Maldives.
You have no bosses, no stress, full freedom, lots of money, creative work, and public adulation. You travel while you work. All you have to do is build an online brand and create some passive income streams. And bingo — the money will come pouring in.
This is THE LIFE you always wanted!
But if you are skeptical, the influencer will flood you with beach selfies from a tropical heaven.
I wish I could say this is all a lie, but it is worse.
As a matter of fact, one in a million might actually pull off this lifestyle or something close to it. But that way, you could even become a Hollywood celebrity.
In this winner-takes-all influencer game, for every winner, there are a million losers. Because if everyone is an influencer, then nobody is.
Further, to project the image of an influencer who works 2 hours a day, you have to work 24×7. You can’t even eat a meal without taking a perfect Instagram selfie!
And when people working normal respectable jobs see this, they think, “My life sucks.”
Just to be clear, I am not saying don’t build a personal brand. Without quitting your job or moving to Maldives, you can build a brand around your expertise. And even if a thousand people follow and admire your work, it can be a great asset.
Regular jobs are the best option for 99% of us. And many influencers envy you for not having to constantly hustle and keep up the facade.
In many ways, you have more freedom than the influencer you envy.
