In my last startup, ConceptOwl, a friend once told me about another learning startup that was growing like crazy by selling through schools. He asked, “Why don’t you also do that?”
When I heard that, my heart sank. We had tried the same approach and failed miserably. And yet, here was someone who had made it work. For the next few months, I cursed myself for my incompetence.
About a year later, this seemingly successful startup shut down despite raising more than Rs 100 Cr in funding. It turned out that the growth story was all hogwash and they were just throwing money.
We often hear stories of people whose life seems like a charm — they magically do everything right, are hugely successful, and embody perfection in everything.
Almost always, that story is fake. Nobody has a perfect life.
But we don’t realize that. We compare ourselves with them and feel miserable. We wonder why we can’t always be happy, and even feel unhappy about feeling unhappy!
The truth is everybody struggles. So don’t beat yourself up for having self-doubts or not having the ‘perfect life.’ You are just like all of us.
The people with perfect life are just lying.
