To start a forest fire, it just takes a spark

I received this email from a young lady suffering from depression and severe weight gain, which is preventing her from socializing and living a normal life. She stays awake at night, sleeps during the day, and is addicted to junk food.

She wants to get out of this rut and change her life. What should she do?

I am not a doctor and can’t give medical advice. However, two things stand out:

1. This young lady is clearly talented — she has written hundreds of poems, some of which have been published internationally.

2. She has been caught in a rut of an unhealthy lifestyle for almost 10 years and is struggling to break out of it.

So what should one do in a situation like this?

First, don’t let your self-image be defined only by the things that you don’t like about yourself.

Second, when you are caught in a rut for a decade or so, don’t change to try too many things. Instead, break the habit patterns that your mind is used to and build one keystone habit.

I can bet that if this lady just starts sleeping and waking up on time, and starts working out or meditating for 20-30 minutes, it would unleash a series of positive changes.

To start a forest fire, it just takes a spark.

To change your life, morning meditation or workout can be that spark.
