Focus on Your Own Journey, Not Someone Else’s

In a high-rise office building in New York, I was once looking across the street at the next skyscraper, craning my neck. And I felt so ‘low down’!

But when I looked down (I was probably on the 30th floor or higher), the cars on the street looked like small toy cars. I felt so high up!

Was I high up, or low down? Both I guess.

Similarly, compared to some people your accomplishments will appear trivially small. But compared to some others, you would have done magnificently.

The key is to become neither proud nor depressed. For sure — seek inspiration from people who have splendid achievements.

But remember that everybody has their own journey, their own priorities.

Focus on, and cherish your own journey. Whether somebody else is on the 10th floor or the 60th floor — it could NOT be more irrelevant.
