Whenever I take a flight, my mother becomes anxious and is on tenterhooks till the flight lands. For 20 years, I have been convincing her that flights are safe but to no avail.
Her logic is that the survival rate of flights is negligible. Also, flying does intuitively feel risky — after all, you are flying in the clouds!
Even though that is true, commercial flying is one of the safest means of travel. And how did we get there?
Short answer: Training and planning.
Civil aviation is tightly regulated and every airline, every airport, and every aircraft manufacturer has to follow global safety standards. Everything in flying is well-planned, practiced, and process-driven to an extreme.
When we consciously train and plan for anything, we become exceptionally good at it. There is no magic.
This principle applies to everything in life. If you want to achieve exceptional outcomes in any area, stop looking for magical answers. There are none.
The solution is always the same: practice, planning, and diligence. No shortcuts.
The glamorous solutions only cause disasters.
