You Can’t Do It All—and That’s Okay

I have 30-odd books on my table, some of which I won’t read for months, years, or maybe, even ever. And I am cool with it.

Because we don’t have time for everything — including positive, life-enhancing activities we would love to do.

We spend a lot of our lives feeling angst and FOMO for the many opportunities that fly past us. I remember that during my MBA, there were so many clubs and activities that if you tried to do them all, you wouldn’t finish your MBA.

So we need to pick and choose. And we need to accept that no matter how hard we try, we can’t do them all.

And if we did try to fit in everything, life would just become another unhappiness-inducing treadmill.

Life requires tradeoffs. So choose what you want to focus on and prioritize — be it books to read, skills to learn, or places to visit. And drop the rest, or park them for later.

This is another kind of letting go. But once you make peace with this, you can do the things that really, really matter.

Giving up the non-essential allows you to have what you truly want.
