Pay the price today

I spent my 4 years at IIT mostly lazing around, wasting my time. But I had other classmates who slogged hard.

In the final year, most hard-working guys had great career options lined up, including scholarships from some top US universities.

I told myself that it didn’t matter since I was not keen on higher studies anyway. While technically true, I sometimes wonder if I was just rationalizing.

But superficially, it looks quite fair – I enjoyed my 4 years and had nothing to show for it. They were rewarded but gave up a fun life. So it is even.

But is it?

Did I really enjoy those 4 years? Somewhere in the back of my mind, I am pretty sure I did not feel happy about my dismal academic performance. Because if that was your DNA, you would probably not clear IITJEE. Nobody who goes to IIT likes under-performing – we just fake it.

When facing a life-challenge, we have two options:

1. Face it head-on and pay the price. And hopefully hit your goals.

2. Hide from it, and avoid paying the price. But in the process, you miss your goals and feel miserable anyway.

Either way, you pay a price. Then why not pay it upfront?

Pay the price now. Face your fears. Get it done.
