After a tiring day, your first priority should be to recover your energy. Without that, it will be hard to focus. Check my answer to your other question - the link is below.
Once you are energized, then follow what I call the focus routine:
1. Switch off your phone or keep it away
2. Do 20 min Pomodoros and during those pomodoros, don't switch to some other task. If some thought comes up, just jot them down on a paper. If you have been to HabitStrong learning sessions, you have seen how we do the sessions - follow the same methodology.
3. If your mind gets distracted involuntarily, just note the distraction and bring yourself back to the study material without blaming yourself or feeling guilty.
That is all it takes. Try it and share your feedback.
I have generally found that after one-one and a half hrs of just simply relaxing or even taking a power nap (on the chair) I am able to focus for another 1-2 hours.
But after that I'm totally wiped out especially if the day was heavy.
